Martin County JV falls short to Lawrence

LOUISA — Martin County JV came up a little short 35-31 against Lawrence County Jan. 18.

The Lady Cardinals got off to a good start winning the first quarter 12-7. Tamara Workman came out ready to play scoring five points in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Martin County went cold from the field and only scored 4 points to lose the lead going in at the half 17-16.

Lawrence County outscored the Lady Cards in the third quarter 13-4. The Lady Cards just couldn’t get their offense going falling 30-18 at the end of three.

The Lady Cards never quit and fought back to get within one in the fourth, outscoring Lawrence County 11-4. Lawrence County hung on for the win.

Tamara Workman led the Lady Cardinals with 12 points, Candace Spaulding added eight, Bella Muncy netted three points, and Harless, Chloe May, Hallie Mills and McCoy each dropped in two points each.

Artrip led Lawrence County with 13 points, Bloomfield added 10 points, Patton finished with seven, and See and Ramey each netted two.

Coach Boo Newsome said she was proud of her kids for not giving up and for fighting back.

“We just need to keep playing as much as we can so we can get better,” Newsome said.
