IES student council ‘leading with heart’

After a week of campaigning, IES Student Leadership Council officers were elected through student ballots.

Since its creation in October, the Inez Elementary Student Leadership Council has been making a big impact in the school and community. Under the leadership of Mrs. Kayla Hale, these students have set out to let their love shine for Inez Elementary and the Martin County community, and they are certainly doing so.

The student-led meetings and activities have brought such excitement and joy to our community.

Officers were elected through student ballots after a week of campaigning with signs and excellent speeches!

Students elected by fellow peers are as follows: President Layla Howell, Vice President Gwyn Chafin, Secretary Hailey Daniel, Treasurer Gunner Lowe, Ambassadors Harper Runyon, Jayce McCoy, Kayden McCoy, Riley Stacy, Bre Kellough and Jase Vanhoose.

This Council of 23 members meets at least once a month and brainstorms ideas for creating a positive school and community environment.

Thus far, this group of wonderful students has completed the following positive “deeds” and projects:

-Teacher treats and “punkins” for Halloween as a Halloween treat

– Assisted in creating the “Grateful Turkey” for our cafeteria

– Brought in over 100 items including food and winter gear to fill our local Blessing Box

– Delivered Thanksgiving treats to all IES Staff to show their appreciation

– Welcomed parents/guardians at the school-wide programs

– Met with an ARO Volunteer to discuss angel tree donations

– Brought in and filled 67 Christmas gift bags for the Martin County Health Care Facility residents

– Sang and visited with the Nursing Home Residents

– Spread Christmas cheer on Coldwater with a Sunday Evening of Caroling

– Are currently working on the “In this School, You are LOVED” project

These students are true examples of what a role model student is. We are excited to see what positive ideas they come up with next.
