ASHLAND — Kentucky State Police arrested a Greenup man on rape and incest charges Jan. 4 at a residence in Ashland.

Police say during the arrest of Justin McDowell, an altercation ensued and McDowell brandished a knife at detectives. He was disarmed and transported to KDMC, where he was treated and released to the Boyd County Detention Center.

McDowell is charged with two counts of second-degree rape (no force), two counts of incest-forcible compulsion/incapable of consent or under 18 years of age, and numerous bench warrants.

The KSP obtained the warrant against McDowell on Dec. 9, 2022.

Det. Sam Lawson is handling the investigation and says further charges are pending in Boyd County.
