Blaine, Paintsville, Louisa East take home opening round wins in EKEBC Tournament

PAINTSVILLE — Blaine, Paintsville, and Louisa East notched opening-round victories Monday night in the opened gym round of the Eastern Kentucky Elementary Conference (EKEBC) Tournament at Paintsville Elementary School.

Here is a recap Monday’s games. 

Blaine 47 – Warfield 37

Skyler Featherolf tickled the twine for a game-high 25 points to lead Blaine over Warfield,47-37, on Monday in the opening round of the EKEBC Tournament at Paintsville Elementary School.

Featherolf, an eighth-grade guard, scored 11 in the first half alone to push Blaine ahead comfortably, 29-12, at the half.

They didn’t look back and didn’t let up.

Landon Hicks had 10 points for Blaine, which won for the second time this season. Seventh-grader Bryson Carter had six points, and seventh-grader Keegan Tackett finished with 2.

Fifth-grader Shawn Nelson had 12 points to lead Warfield. Sixth-graders Mason Prince and Ben Sammons followed with 12 points for the Red Devils. Sixth-grader Jacob Massie finished with 4.

Blaine advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal round against Paintsville. Results were not available as of press time. 

At Paintsville

Paintsville 34Fallsburg 9

PAINTSVILLE — Fifth-graders Mason Reed and Will Austin combined for 19 points as Paintsville cruised to a 34-9 victory over Fallsburg in the opening round of the EKEBC Tournament on Monday at Paintsville Elementary School.

Reed had 10 points for the Tigers (9-4). Austin followed with nine. Mason Preston and Madden Burchett each had four. Austin Ward, Ryder Hale, and Branson Green had two apiece, while Graham Cox finished with one.

Paintsville moved on to play Fallsburg on Tuesday in the tournament’s semifinals. Results were not available as of press time.

Wyatt Perkins had six points to lead Fallsburg. Jayden Spillman followed with two, and Cole Hutton finished with one. 

At Paintsville

PAINTSVILLE — Louisa East used a 13-3 fourth quarter to blow the game wide open and defeat Eden, 33-17, in the opening round of the EKEBC Tournament Monday at Paintsville Elementary School.

Mikey Artrip had a game-high 19 points to lead Louisa East. Carson Castle followed with six. Jolt Thompson had four. Brother Fitzpatrick chipped in three, and Case Cramer finished with two.

Luke Preece had 10 points to lead Eden. Braxton Pack and Brydan Marshall had three apiece. Brody Jewell finished with one.

Louisa East advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals against Inez, which drew a bye in the first round. Results were not available as of press time.
