HUNTINGTON — Tug Valley fell to 2-2 on the young season as they lost to Class AAA Spring Valley 86-75 Thursday in a road game.
Joey Gollihue and Ashton Davis each scored 17 points to lead Tug Valley. Gollihue swished in four 3-pointers, while Davis connected on three treys. Buddy Marcum added 14 for the Panthers, while Kaden Hale chipped in 11 and Parker Davis seven. Braydun Ferris scored three points and dished out four assists.
Clay Robertson led Spring Valley with 25 points, while Ty Smithers scored 17, Tate Adkins 14 and Colton Caldwell 12.
Tug Valley led 21-20 after one quarter but trailed 40-38 at halftime. Spring Valley outscored the Panthers in both the third and fourth quarters to pull away with the home victory.
The Panthers shot 42% from the field, including 13-28 from behind the arc for 46%. They were 14-19 at the charity stripe for 74%.
Spring Valley made 22-27 of its free throws for 81% and shot 54% from the field and 44% from 3-point land.
Tug Valley will host their own holiday tournament this week, dubbed the Kaydence Maynard Christmas Classic and named for the late daughter of assistant coach Tyler Hodge. There will be several games on both Dec. 29 and Dec. 30, including middle and high school contests. The Panthers will host Gilmer County and Cameron for their two games.

Tug Valley 71, Tolsia 48
NAUGATUCK — The Tug Valley Panthers defeated rival Tolsia 71-48 in a Dec. 20 contest at the TVHS home gym.
The Rebels made the trip down U.S. 52 and played the Panthers tough in the first half. The game was tied at 16-16 after one quarter, but Tug Valley outscored Tolsia 20-8 in the second period to take and keep the lead.
The Panthers outscored the Rebels 22-13 in the third quarter and 13-11 in the final eight minutes of play.
Paul Preece came off the bench to score nine points in the second quarter to give Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson’s squad a boost.
Ashton Davis led TVHS with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Braydun Ferris was next in the scoring column with 12 points, while Parker Davis had 10 points for Tug Valley. Joey Gollihue added nine points, while Preece finished with nine and Buddy Marum six. Marcum pulled down eight rebounds while Ferris dished out three assists.
Parker Watts led Tolsia with 26 points and was the leading scorer in the game.
Tug Valley shot 44% from the floor, 37% from behind the arc, and 6-12 at the free-throw line for 50%.
