Ella Rose (Connors) Sumpter

1934—2022

Ella Rose Sumpter, age 88, of Inez, passed away Dec. 14, 2022 at her residence.

She was born June 12, 1934 in Floyd County to the late Raymond and Inez Goble Connors. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Randy Ray Sumpter, one daughter, Linda Lou Sumpter, and four brothers, Neil Connors, Stanley Connors, Jimmy Connors and Hugh Burton Connors.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Samuel Lee Sumpter; two sons, Gary Lee (Janet) Sumpter of Louisa and Samuel Lee (Loretta) Sumpter Jr. of Tomahawk; two daughters, Greta Gay (Don) Blackburn and Sandiena (Melvin) Howard, both of Inez; and one brother, Lowell (Patsy) Connors of Fort Smith, Ariz. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; her caregiver, Julie Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022 in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home with Bubby Davis officiating. Burial was at the Mills Horn Crum Cemetery on Turkey. Arrangements were under the direction of the Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
