PIKEVILLE — DEA officers descended Thursday on the Coal Run residence of Dr. Jason N. Stamper and discovered multiple bags of heroin, methamphetamine, a large quantity of the attention deficit disorder drug Vyvanse and drug paraphernalia, including scales and pipes.

Stamper, 51, a well-known psychiatrist, was at his office on Hambley Boulevard at the time of the raid and was taken into federal custody at the location without incident.

The physician was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree possession of controlled substance.

Stamper was booked at the Pike County Detention Center and later released after posting bail.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the search.

According to information on the Kentucky Licensed Physician website, Stamper graduated from the University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001. He has practiced medicine in the local area since that date and has been affiliated with the Pikeville Medical Center, the Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital and several clinics.

In August 2019, Dr. Stamper’s medical license was restricted for a period of time after a grievance was filed against him with the State Board of Medical Licensure by the parent/guardian of a minor patient who claimed the psychiatrist “showed him pictures of young men he had had sex with or who he wants to have sex.”

An article published in the Lexington Herald-Leader stated Stamper said the allegation was not true. The report noted the patient was “never touched by Stamper.”

The restriction was removed from his medical license in 2020.

DEA officers and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department raided the home of Pikeville psychiatrist Jason Stamper on Thursday, then arrested him at his office located on Hambley Boulevard shortly after that. Stamper was charged with three counts of drug-related offenses.
