Tug Valley cheerleaders win regional crown

NAUGATUCK — The Tug Valley High School cheerleaders recently won the Class A Regional title and will again participate in the state tourney.

The Panther cheer squad, coached by Tara Mitchell Wolford, has won four state championships in the past and become one of the top high school cheer competition squads in the Mountain State.

This year’s squad consists of seniors Maddie Deskins and Cami Thompson; juniors Selicity Baisden, Tailyn Russell, Laura Spaulding, Jessica Spaulding, Kynnli Farley, Millie Wellman, Karissa Davis and Kylee Reed; sophomores Trixie Marcum, Chelsea Perry and Kirsten Grimmett; freshmen Lila Duncan, Molly Hatfield, Addison Ooten and Alyson Marcum.

Wolford is assisted by Marie White.

“We are so thankful and appreciative to all that support us on our journey. As a team, we hope we continue to make our community proud on our quest for our fifth state title,” Wolford said. “Go Panthers!”

The state competition is Dec. 10 at the Henderson Center at Marshall University in Huntington. Tug Valley is scheduled to perform at noon.
