INEZ — A few jack-o-lanterns took a detour from the usual scare tactics this October.

Youth at Freedom Freewill Baptist Church used them to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The youth painted their pumpkins pink and decorated them Oct. 23 in Children’s Church in the Painting Pumpkins Pink Contest to spread awareness of the disease.

The pumpkins were displayed in the lobby at First State Bank in Inez.

Painters (not in pumpkin order) included Isabella Vinson, Tanner Jennings, Taytum Jennings, Hudson Spence, Dawson Preece, Tucker Preece, Mariah Preece, Noah Bowen, Caleb Bowen and Ezra Bowen.
