INEZ — An Inez man is facing an assault charge after allegedly attacking a deputy sheriff Friday evening.

Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy David Adams went to a residence on Bowentown Lane in Inez to serve a warrant on 47-year-old Christopher Marcum for not showing up for court. Adams found Marcum hiding under a blanket in the homeowner’s bedroom and placed him in handcuffs.

According to the police report, Marcum began to “passively resist arrest” by refusing to walk to the cruiser, squatting down and trying to pull away.

Adams was holding Marcum by the arms when Marcum bit him on the left forearm. When the deputy removed his arm from Marcum’s mouth, Marcum kicked him in the right leg.

The deputy took Marcum to the ground, where he became complaint.

The police report states that Marcum claimed to be HIV-positive after biting the deputy.

In addition to the bench warrant, Marcum faces charges of third-degree assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
