SALYERSVILLE — Martin County fell to eventual district volleyball champion Paintsville on Oct. 17 at Magoffin County High School.
Seniors Hannah Robinson and Kirsten Wells played the last game of their Cardinal volleyball careers.
“We played good as a team. I started to hit well lately,” Hannah said proudly.
Wells was a constant for the team this season when the going got tough. “Everyone had heart out there tonight. We were all hustling. We knew Paintsville was a good team, but we just went out there and played.”
Martin County head coach Katie White-Patrick concluded her first season.
“I am 100 percent proud of how hard we played and their attitudes tonight,” Patrick said. “They left it all out on the floor. Tonight was Hannah’s highlight reel.”
Coach Patrick is sad to see her seniors go but looking forward to next season.
“The potential for the future is there. I think Martin County will be a team to be afraid of in a couple of years,” said the coach. “They love each other. They’re a young team, but no matter who we went up against, they tried their best.”
Robinson had two kills, two digs and a block. Wells had three digs and two kills. Marlee Grayson dove two times for a dig and had two blocks and a kill. Sarah Keener bumped up four digs at libero. Raegen Horn had an assist and dig. Hallee Preece picked up a dig and Kristin Preece had one block.
