Martin County Cardinals roll past Hazard on Senior Night

INEZ — Martin County rolled past Hazard 93-80 on Senior Night, Feb. 15 at home.

Before tipoff, the Cardinals honored senior players, cheerleaders, dancers and the team mascot at center court.

Seniors Eli Mills, Braxton Maynard, Devan Maynard, Alan Moore and Tanner Jennings played their final game in the Martin County gym.

Senior cheerleaders and dancers Reagan Hale, Adalynn Maynard, Addison Kerr, Bailey Parsons, Kadence Blackburn, Keandie Evans, Marlee Grayson and Hallee Preece, along with mascot Wesley Rosensteel, also took the floor one last time in front of a full house.

In the season’s final home game, Martin County’s offense stayed in attack mode for four quarters behind an electric scoring performance from Braxton Keathley. The junior guard poured in 41 points on 15-of-22 shooting, mixing strong finishes at the rim with four 3-pointers and going 7-for-8 at the free-throw line.

Keathley also filled up the stat sheet with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Sophomore Bryson Dials was lethal. He fired in 18 points, knocking down four 3-pointers, and added three rebounds and three assists.

Devan Maynard gave the Cardinals muscle and disruption on both ends. He scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, dishing five assists and leading the Cards with five steals.

Eli Mills hit timely shots from the perimeter as well, finishing with 11 points on three 3-pointers to go with five rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Alan Moore chipped in six points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night. He grabbed three rebounds and dished an assist.

Brayden Marcum added five points and continued to create havoc defensively with three steals, a rebound and an assist. Tanner Jennings and Braxton Maynard also saw action in the senior night win.

Martin County traveled Feb. 16 to Pike Central and will wrap up the regular season Feb. 18 at Shelby Valley with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

Former Martin County player Peyton Davis received his 1,000-point ball from head coach Jason “JJ” James in Inez, Feb. 15. Davis is having a stellar season for Kentucky Christian University and returned to Martin County to receive his award.
