Martin County Middle School falls on eighth-grade night

WARFIELD — Martin County Middle School celebrated eighth-grade night Jan. 16, but Williamson edged the Cardinals 31-28 in the varsity game.

Kooper Sturgill carried the offensive load with 16 points to lead Martin County. Brayden Hammond and Chucky Leonard chipped in four points apiece. Cardinals Mason Phillips and Landon Estep each scored two.

Martin County got a win on the nightcap, as the JV squad pulled away for a 35-21 victory.

Kason Evans led the way with nine points and Zander Sammons added seven. CJ Nichols and Jonah McCoy each finished with five. Rylee Damron and Hunter Phelps scored four apiece, Aiden Endicott flipped in two and Bentley Chapman added one.
