
Richard Maynard
1934—2026
Richard Maynard, 91, of Kermit, West Virginia, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Born Aug. 3, 1934, in Martin County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Maynard and Vecie Fletcher Maynard.
Richard was a retired carpenter and was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in his craft.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Sturgell Maynard; children, Kathy Smith, Richard Darrell Maynard, Roberta Muncy and Ricky Maynard; and several brothers and sisters, including Becky and Okie Sartin, Violet and Willard Harmon, Omie and Carl Adkins, Boone Preece, Chester and Ethel Maynard, Alex and Hazel Maynard, Robert Maynard, Bob Maynard, Leona Maynard, Mary Justice, Sherman Justice, Mavis and Franklin Preece, and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Farley of Kermit; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He is also survived by one sister, Vinnie Preece.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, at the Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield, Kentucky. Burial will follow at Peter Cave Memorial Cemetery in Pilgrim, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home of Inez.
