1949—2026

Jackson Douglas Harless, 77, of Inez, was called home Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at Highlands Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Born Jan. 17, 1949, in Inez, he was the son of the late John and Viola Runyon Harless.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Donald “Don” Harless, George Harless, Andy Harless and Walter Harless; sisters Virginia “Omie” Davis Harless, Opal Carter Harless, Shelby-Jean Powell Harless, Izetta Perry Harless, Athleen Harless and Lucill Harless; and his beloved hunting dog, Casey.

Jackson proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years and dedicated 25 years to working in the coal mines. He had a deep love for the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing or just sitting out on the porch. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, creating memories full of laughter, stories and joy.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Ada Swisher Harless; children Jeffery Harless, Jacqueline (Jason) Wefenstette, and Anita Fitch Harless; six grandchildren Bryce Dean, Kelsey (Austin) Boggs, Blake Harless, Fallyne Wefensette, Nicholas Harless and Ervin “EJ” Harless; one great-grandchild, Bentley Michelle Boggs; and a loving circle of nieces and nephews.

Jackson will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for the outdoors, his laughter and stories he loved to share.

Funeral services for Jackson took place Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Callaham Funeral Home in Inez with burial at Saltwell Memorial Cemetery in Tomahawk. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make a contribution to help the family with funeral arrangements, remembering Jackson with love and support. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
