Gene Randall Preece, 84, of Richmond, passed away peacefully Jan. 18, 2026, in Irvine.

Gene was a graduate of Goodwill Academy, where he was honored by the Mayor of Washington, DC, upon graduation. He went on to a dedicated career, retiring from Lord & Taylor Department Store after 25 years of service.

Following his retirement, Gene returned to Martin County, Kentucky, the place he proudly called home. He was a faithful member of the Inez Church of the Nazarene.

Gene was a devoted husband, brother, and friend. He shared his life with his beloved wife of 50 years, Alice Preece.

Known for his warm and friendly nature, Gene never met a stranger; instead, everyone was “good buddy.” His kindness and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He was a man of faith who trusted in God throughout his life. He found strength and comfort in his belief, and his faith guided him in how he lived, loved, and treated others.

Gene now rests in the presence of the Lord, reunited with loved ones who went before him, and leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Gene is survived by his wife Alice Preece; his sister and brother-in-law Ginger and Kenneth Cox; and his brother Phil Preece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora June Penn, and stepfather, Ralph Penn; his father, Ed Preece; and his brothers, Russell Logan Penn and Ralph Richard Penn Jr.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at the Callaham Funeral Home with Wade Murphy officiating. Burial followed at the Cox Family Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
