
William ‘Bill’ Lee Preston
1967—2026
William “Bill” Lee Preston, age 58, of Tomahawk, passed away Jan. 17, 2026, at Community Hospice in Ashland.
Born Aug. 27, 1967, in Lawrence County, he was the son of the late Willie Preston and Rella (Howard) Preston Amburgey.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his stepfather, Winfred Amburgey; one daughter, Katilynn Francis Paige Preston; one brother, David Preston; two sisters, Tina Maynard and Cora Jude; one stepbrother, Roger Amburgey; and one grandchild, Aiden Preston.
He is survived by his significant other, Pat Cook of Tomahawk; two sons, Justin Tyler (Haley) Preston of Chapmanville, West Virginia, and William Eric (Brittany) Preston of Tomahawk; one stepson, Brian Carter of Tomahawk; three brothers, James (Suzie) Preston of Debord, Johnny (Rhonda) Preston of Tomahawk and Jackie (Paula) Preston of Tomahawk; one stepbrother, Adrian (Jo) Amburgey of Indiana; three sisters, Gertrude Jarrell of Louisa, Clistine (Jr.) Maynard of Paintsville and Maggie (Shelby) Moore of Pilgrim; and one stepsister, Susan (Jeff) Lowden of Oregon. William is also survived by two grandchildren, Charleigh Noel Preston and Sadie Preston, who lovingly referred to him as “Papaw Bill,” one grandchild on the way, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with being a hardworking employee and devoted grandfather, William was also an avid Kentucky basketball fan.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home in Inez, with Lonnie Ratliff and Buddy Stacy officiating. Burial will follow in the Preston Cemetery in Tomahawk. Friends may visit the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
