Thompson sentenced to three years in funeral home truck theft

INEZ — A man will spend three years in prison following sentencing Thursday by Martin Circuit Judge John Kevin Holbrook in Inez.

Marcus Thompson, 27, of Ulysses, was sentenced on a single count of theft by unlawful taking (greater than $10,000) after pleading guilty.

According to court records, the sentence stems from an incident Feb. 4, 2023, when Thompson took a truck and a grave vault from Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield.

En route to West Virginia, he dumped the vault along KY-292.

Thompson was later apprehended in Mingo County, West Virginia, where police found him hiding inside a garage that he broke into to elude capture.

Mingo Circuit Judge Miki Thompson imposed a 1-3-year sentence on Thompson.

According to court records, Thompson received credit for 337 days of incarceration before his sentencing in Martin County.
