Lady Panthers split pair of games

The Tug Valley Lady Panthers, ranked No. 3 in Class A, split a pair of games last week. They overwhelmed Pocahontas County 81-37 behind four players in double figures Jan. 10, then fell 55-50 at Wayne despite a late rally Jan. 15.

The Lady Panthers had a 9-3 record after the two tough tests on the road.

Tug vs. Pocahontas

The Lady Panthers had four players in double figures as they downed the Lady Warriors of Pocahontas County 81-37 on Saturday night, Jan. 10 on the road in Dunmore.

Haven Deskins led the way, firing in 27 points, including 17 in the first half. Kylie DeBoard scored 13 points, with 12 coming in the first half.

Tug Valley led 26-5 after the first quarter and 46-14 at the half.

Bailee Hall had another double-double with 14 points and an incredible 23 rebounds. Freshman Gracie Hynd scored 15 off the bench, 10 in the second half. Katelyn Richardson scored six, Katie Hall added four and Mindi Dearnell two.

DeBoard had nine steals and eight assists.

Savana Sharp led the Lady Warriors with 12 points, while Calli Propst scored 9.

Sammons leads Wayne past Tug Valley

All-State guard Jayce Sammons fired in 37 points to lead the Lady Pioneers of Wayne to a 55-50 victory over the Lady Panthers of Tug Valley, Jan. 15 at Wayne. She was the only Wayne player in double figures.

Haven Deskins led TVHS with 15 points, while Bailee Hall scored 11, Katie Hall chipped in 10, Gracie Hynd had seven off the pines, Katelyn Richardson netted four and Kylie DeBoard added three.

Bailee Hall pulled down 13 rebounds, while Katie Hall had eight boards. DeBoard led the team with three steals.

Wayne led 20-16 after one quarter and 31-23 at halftime. Tug Valley battled back in the fourth quarter to outscore the Lady Pioneers 15-11, but could never overcome the deficit.

Class A No. 3-ranked Tug Valley saw its record drop to 9-3, while the Class AA No. 5 Lady Pioneers improved to 9-3 on the season.
