INEZ — The Martin County High School Band earned multiple All-District Band honors with 11 students selected through competitive auditions.
Those named to the All-District Band are Brady Newsome, Zach Maynard, Drake Bowen, Kyle Cornette, Caroline Russell, Aaron Horn, Morgan Allen, Justin Eller, Seven Crum, Reagan Sparks and Luke Preece.
The Kentucky Music Educators Association administers selections and divides the state into regional districts for band auditions. Schools in District 9 range geographically from Perry Central in the east to Letcher County in the south, Martin County in the north, and all schools in between, making it one of the larger and more competitive districts in the state.
Students audition against peers from other district schools and are evaluated on tone, technique, rhythm, accuracy and musicianship. Approximately 20% of students who audition are selected for the All-District Band.
Students who make the All-District Band rehearse under a guest conductor and perform in a district concert. High scores may also qualify students for consideration for All-State Band.
Band and school officials congratulated the honorees, noting their pride in the program.
