NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — The Tug Valley High School Panthers, ranked No. 1 in Class A in West Virginia, won two games in the third annual Kaydence Maynard Memorial Classic tournament held at the TVHS gym in Naugatuck, Dec. 29 and 30.
The event featured games all day long, including grade school, middle school and high school teams.
TV 70, CB 53
The Panthers won in the nightcap of the event Dec. 29 as they downed Calvary Baptist of Teays Valley 70-53.
All-state point guard Braydun Ferris scored 14 first-half points to lead the way for Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson’s squad.
Tug Valley led 23-7 after one quarter and 43-15 at halftime.
Ferris finished the game with 25 points and dished out 10 assists. Preston May scored 13, Aiden Copeland 11, Zade Rash 10, Carson Newsome nine and Cam Slone two.
The Panthers shot 48% from the floor, including 7-19 from behind the arc for 37%. They were 5-8 at the free throw line for 63%.
Caleb Skeens led Calvary Baptist with 18 points, while Brady Good scored 13.
The win improved Tug Valley’s record to 3-1 on the season.

Tug Valley concluded the Kaydence Maynard Memorial Classic holiday tournament with an 85-68 victory over Independence on Dec. 30.
The two teams battled hard after one quarter of play with TV leading 16-6. The Panthers outscored Independence 26-21 in the second period to take a lead into the dressing room at halftime.
The visitors fought back in the second half but could never overcome the early deficit, falling behind by 10 points in the first eight minutes of play.
Braydun Ferris led the way for TV with 29 points and seven assists. Zade Rash scored 20 points and Carson Newsome 18 points. Aiden Copeland chipped in six off the bench, Preston May and Cam Slone both scored four points, while Jace Hale and Jaxson Jewell each scored two.
Tug Valley forced 13 turnovers against Independence. The Panthers shot 9-10 from the foul line for 90% and 34-67 from the floor for 51%.
Ashton Arthur scored 25 for the Patriots, while Brock Green added 18.
