INEZ — Specialty Court programs serving Johnson, Martin and Lawrence counties hosted a Christmas party for participants and their families Friday at the Collier Center in Inez. Children enjoyed a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and received Christmas gifts.

Event organizers said Specialty Court plays an important role in the justice system by providing an alternative to incarceration for individuals with substance use disorders. The program combines intensive treatment, frequent court supervision, drug testing and accountability to help participants achieve long-term recovery, reduce recidivism and strengthen families.

Community-building events such as the Christmas party reflect Specialty Court’s emphasis on rehabilitation and stability, not punishment alone, organizers said.

Donations and support from OVP, Phi Theta Kappa, the Rotary Club, EKRC and New Vision Recovery Center made the event possible. Organizers expressed appreciation for the community partners who helped make the evening meaningful for participating families.
