Do not take no for an answer

A story came across the wires from Reuters about a family of ducklings that fell down a sewer grate in Vancouver. Their mother did what any parent would do: She got help from a passing police officer.

The mother duck grabbed the police officer by the pant leg while he was on foot patrol. The policeman shoved what he thought was just a goofy duck away, but she persisted, grabbing his leg again when he tried to leave, and then waddling to a nearby sewer grate where she sat down and waited for him to follow and investigate.

The policeman came to where she sat and saw eight little baby ducklings in the water below. Police removed the heavy metal grate with the help of a tow truck and used a vegetable strainer to lift the ducklings to safety. Mother and offspring then departed for a nearby pond.

If we could just be like that mother duck when it comes to seeing that people with Christ come to know Him. But sadly, most of the time, we just quit trying and give up when the task seems impossible.

Let’s face it. We have become a very spoiled and lazy people. What happened to the hardy settlers of years gone by who came from another land and worked and scraped to make a life in this nation? They had faith in God and enough faith that, if God wanted them here, they would make a life for themselves and their future generations.

We are willing to settle that some will never come to Christ. What in that mother duck made her attempt the impossible to save her ducklings? Instinct? She just could not go away and do nothing. Are you satisfied to just do nothing?

What about people around you who do not know Jesus Christ and are headed for a devil’s hell? Can you just sit idly by and do nothing? Or can you pray for them and share your faith with them?

Will they understand? Only if we are persistent and consistent with our lives will they understand our faith.

The mother duckling was persistent. We should be persistent in the pursuit of the lost and consistent in our lifestyle so that we set a proper example of what a Christian really is.

That is just what Jesus wants us to do. And remember, we have a Friend who wants to help us in our human endeavors to lead others to Himself. Christ is waiting to help you today, to give you the words and the opportunity to lead others to Him.
