MARTHA — Kentucky State Police troopers shot and killed a 69-year-old Lawrence County man late Saturday while trying to serve an arrest warrant, officials said.
Troopers fired at Timothy Keeton when he pointed a gun at them, police said.
The shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. on KY-1715 in Martha when officers from Post 14 in Ashland went to a residence looking for a woman with active warrants for assault.
As they arrived, Keeton, who lived nearby, confronted the troopers. He told them to turn off their lights or he would shoot them out, according to KSP.
Keeton briefly went inside his home before returning with a firearm.
Troopers say they ordered Keeton to drop the weapon. However, he raised the firearm in their direction, and troopers fired their weapons, striking Keeton.
Officers rendered lifesaving aid at the scene, but Keeton died from his injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
