INEZ — The Martin County Schools Police Department has expanded its ranks with a familiar face. Police Chief Chris Kidd announced that Officer Nathan Todd of Inez has joined the department as its third officer.

“Officer Todd was raised here in Martin County and went to school here his whole life,” Kidd said. “He brings a plethora of experience, knowledge and training not only in investigations and police work but in emergency response and lifesaving.”

He noted that Todd is a certified police officer, a certified Kentucky firefighter and an active member of the local volunteer fire department. Todd is also currently enrolled in classes to gain EMT certification.

“We feel very fortunate to have someone with his expertise,” Kidd said. “He is a good addition.”

Officer Todd will primarily serve at Eden Elementary but will float between Eden and Inez Elementary as needed.

A graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy, Todd said joining the school police department feels like coming home.

“I’m looking forward to it and can’t wait to get everything rolling,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a good job.”

Todd began his law enforcement career with the South Charleston Police Department, serving for two years before transferring his certification to Kentucky to work closer to home. Since then, he has served with the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department and most recently with the Prestonsburg City Police Department.
