
John Wesley Milum
1969—2025
John Wesley Milum, 56, of Breeden, West Virginia, departed this life Nov. 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Nov. 6, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Bill R. Milum and Naomi (Chick) Finley Milum.
John was a 1988 graduate of Williamson High School. He was a member of the 1988 Williamson Wolfpack state championship basketball team. In 1988, he received the Best All-Around Athlete in three sports, the Best All-Around Baseball Player, and the Tony Gentile 110% Award. He was also inducted into the Williamson Athletic Hall of Fame.
John was a former Mingo County Deputy Sheriff who started the Shop with a Cop Program. He was also a former West Virginia State Trooper, receiving the Trooper of the Year award in 2002.
John was employed as an electrician at Coronado Coal until his cancer diagnosis in 2023.
He was a member of Marrowbone Freewill Baptist (The Red Church), where he enjoyed singing and fellowship.
John leaves behind his wife, Pamela Milum; two daughters, Marisa (Jacob) Copley and Mandi Milum; and a new grandson, Ezra John Copley. He also leaves behind very special in-laws, Alton and Patricia May; siblings Larry (Beverly) Thompson, Janice (Kenny) Bowens, Geri (Ron) Sanger, Troy (Gretta) Milum, Billie Jo (Danny Jo West) Milum, and Jason (Lee Ann) Milum. Additional survivors include his nieces and nephews, Amy Caldwell, Kristy Pauley, Marc Sanger, Jennifer Ousley, Brandon Bowens, Alishia Kirk, Allyson Hager, Jasie Turner, Blake West, Paul Milum Jr., Ethan Milum and Mia Milum, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services took place Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at the Marrowbone Freewill Baptist Church in Kermit, West Virginia. Burial followed at the May Road Cemetery at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
