Eden picks up win over Highlands

INEZ — Eden Elementary’s boys basketball program turned in a strong week on the hardwood, sweeping Highlands in A, B and C team action Monday at EES before dropping a pair of competitive games to Millard on Thursday in Warfield.

In A-team play Monday at Eden Elementary, the Wildcats rolled past Highlands 40-8 behind a game-high 15 points from Parker Stafford. Eden never trailed and built its largest lead at 32 points.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter. They stretched the margin to 27-6 at halftime and later put together a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Eden was active on both ends, finishing with 25 rebounds and 13 steals.

Stafford led the way on the glass with seven rebounds. The Wildcats also passed the ball well, dishing out nine assists on 19 made baskets. Blaine Williams handed out five assists while scoring seven points.

Kaiden Bertling and Brock Fields added eight points apiece, and Declan McCoy chipped in two.

The Eden B-team came away with a 23-4 victory. Eden fell behind 2-0 early but answered with a 23-0 run and led 18-2 at halftime.

Collin Endicott paced the B team with eight points. Eden dominated the boards, pulling down 42 rebounds, led by Jaxon Maynard with nine.

The Wildcats’ pressure defense piled up 21 steals. Charlie Blackburn led the way with seven steals while adding four points.

Also scoring for the B team were Gray Newsome and Maynard with four points, Blackburn with four, Kingston Deskins with two and Lyric Howell with one.

Eden’s C team made it a clean sweep over Highlands with a 32-10 win.

The Wildcats spread the scoring around as Eli Greer poured in 10 points and Waylon Porter followed with eight. R. Harless finished with six points, Hank Reed and Kace Nezbeth added four apiece.

Eden returned to action Thursday against Millard, where the Wildcats dropped a pair of hard-fought contests.

In A team play, Eden fell 33-22 despite another strong outing from Stafford, who led the Wildcats with 11 points. Beckam Spaulding added four points. Williams and Fields scored two each. Bertling rounded out the scoring with one point.

The B team closed the night with a 31-11 loss to Millard. Newsome led Eden with four points. Deskins followed with three. Endicott and Howell each added a bucket for the Wildcats.
