Maynard surpasses 5,000 career yards

INEZ — Martin County senior quarterback Devan Maynard reached a major career milestone Friday night. He surpassed 5,000 total yards in his high school football career during the Cardinals’ matchup against Prestonsburg.

Maynard has been a dominant force for the Cardinals throughout his career. He has excelled both through the air and on the ground. So far this season, he has thrown for 1,385 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 1,046 yards and 20 scores.

The senior signal caller has also made an impact defensively. He ranks seventh on the team in total tackles with 35, including four for a loss. He has picked off opposing quarterbacks three times for 95 return yards, including one interception returned for a touchdown.
