INEZ — Martin County senior Devan Maynard is just one step away from playing on a national stage at the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Dallas this December, and the community is rallying behind him to help raise the $3,000 he needs to make the trip a reality.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound standout for the Cardinals was selected earlier this year to compete among the nation’s top high school football players at AT&T Stadium, Dec. 13–15.
Local organizations and businesses have already stepped up. The Kiwanis Club donated $300, while Hillbilly Hibachi, the Spirit Shop and individual supporters have helped raise around $1,100 so far.
“It means everything,” Maynard said of their support. “I appreciate everyone who has donated so far. They are giving me the possibility of my dreams coming true.”
Maynard is determined to make the most of the opportunity and represent his home region with pride.
“Outsiders question our intelligence and abilities,” he said. “I get to show the world that an eastern Kentucky boy has what it takes. I want to be an example of what you can do if you set your mind to achieving the impossible, and to show kids from this area that they are capable of anything.”
Maynard, who has drawn recruiting interest from multiple programs, said the journey to this point has taken years of dedication and the support of those around him.
“I thank my family and coaches, especially Josh Horn,” he said. “He took me to the combine and we had a lot of trips over the summer to camps showcasing what I’m made of. Coach [Josh] Muncy and Cody Slone have also been a huge help.”
The Blue-Grey All-American Bowl brings together elite high school seniors from across the country, giving them the opportunity to perform in front of college scouts and recruiters at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Horn, who helps promote Martin County athletes to college programs. “Devan has worked for years to earn this kind of recognition. We want to make sure money doesn’t stand in the way of him representing our community on a national level.”
Maynard and his family continue to fundraise, with donations accepted through the Martin County High School athletic department.
“It feels amazing to represent Martin County and play on such a big stage,” Maynard said. “I’m grateful and working hard to make our community proud.”
