Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
A lot of preaching and teaching is being done today about vision. You must have a vision statement. You must have a vision for reaching the lost, for the future, and for reaching the youth. Even some churches have a vision committee. Is that what this verse is talking about?
Many people are giving their visions or revelations from God. “God told me…” “God said to me…”
Why are we so hungry in our hearts for a new word from God? Why are we even looking for a new word from God? And why are we so hungry for a fresh fire from God? God has given us all the word we are going to get in the Bible. He has given us all the fire we need in the Holy Spirit.
This is what Proverbs 29:18 means in the Hebrew language. Where there is no redemptive revelation of God, the people perish. When there is no word from God the people are unrestrained. God always had His spokesmen in the Bible: Moses, the prophets and the apostles. Then Hebrews 1 tells us that God has spoken to us in these last days through Jesus. In other words God has already said all that He is going to say through Jesus.
The Bible says that the word of God is sufficient. 2 Timothy 3:16: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” Yet we look for a vision or a new word from God, even though that is not the meaning of Proverbs 29:18 at all. No word from God means no word OF God. When no one is preaching or teaching THE inspired only word of God, the Bible, the people will be unrestrained!
The people are unrestrained or out of control if the word of God is not proclaimed. If the word of God is not preached the people will be full of sin and do what is right in their own eyes. Serious stuff, isn’t it? This is what is happening today. When the word of God is not being preached and taught, morality is confused. False religions, drug addiction, corruption and greed will take over.
It is the word of God that we need to study and teach to save our children, our families and our nation! We don’t need a new word of God but to proclaim the ONLY Word of God that we are going to get and all that we will ever need!
1 Peter 1:23: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” John 17:17: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Why do we look for a vision when we have the word of God?
