INEZ — Martin County (7-1) traveled to the top of the mountain to take on Floyd Central (1-7) Friday night. The Cards came away with a dominating 46–14 win over the Jaguars.
Martin County jumped ahead early and never looked back, piling up 265 passing yards and 161 rushing yards. The Cardinal defense held Floyd Central to just 102 yards rushing and 90 passing, forcing three fumbles.

Veteran signal caller Devan Maynard continued his dominance on both sides of the ball. He threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns while adding 59 yards and two scores rushing on the ground.
Junior Rex Ward was Maynard’s top target. He hauled in five receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown. He recorded four total tackles, two for a loss.
Jerrod Haney caught three passes for 53 yards and hit paydirt. Senior Gavin Stepp added a touchdown reception.
Sophomore Jeremy Begley contributed a rushing score with 60 yards on eight carries. He also caught a pass for 12 yards.
Brayden Fannin reeled in two catches for 48 yards. Liam Fields caught the pigskin for a 17-yard reception. Jono Cline collected two in the air for 13 yards.
Crayson “Bones” Lafferty rushed for 11 yards on two carries and amassed five total tackles. Dillion Daniel had a carry for 10 yards. Dalton Vinson rushed for nine. Noah Bowens, Bradley Hatfield, and Braxton Maynard each picked up yards on the ground for the Cards.
Kendal Mullins added a 2-point conversion to the mix with a trick play.

On defense, Haney, B. Maynard and Fannin each recorded seven tackles.
D. Maynard, Easton Slone, Hatfield, Jason Newsome, and Samuel Moore brought down three Jaguars. Newsome secured two for a loss and Slone, one.
Daniel, Cline, and Braxton Carter helped bring down two Floyd Central players.
Braxton Moore and Colton Mullins assisted on a tackle.
The squad recovered three fumbles with the assistance of Ward, Haney, and Begley, with Haney returning one for 8 yards. D. Maynard also grabbed an interception.
Cardinal kicker Sebastian Genovese was perfect on extra points and 1-of-2 on field goal attempts.

Martin County takes on undefeated Prestonsburg (8-0) this Friday at The Rock. The Blackcats won on a last-second touchdown at their place last season.
In maybe the year’s most anticipated match-up, the Cards are looking to secure deep home-field advantage for the 2A playoffs and a title. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
