
Paul Marcum ‘Preacher Paul’
1943—2025
Paul Marcum “Preacher Paul,” 82, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Opal Marcum; a granddaughter, Taylor Messer; a brother, Jimmy Marcum; and two sisters, Margaret Pertee and Carol Haley.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Violet Marcum, and his beloved children: Donald (Opal) Todd, Michelle (Lafe) Messer, Brooke (Joe) Golden, Tammy (Sammy) Howell, and Timmy (Sherry) Stepp. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who brought him great joy throughout his life.
Paul honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired after many years as a dedicated coal truck driver.
Known fondly as “Preacher Paul,” he was an ordained minister who devoted his life to sharing God’s word and serving others through his ministry. He loved preaching and attending church and continued his devotion to the Lord until his health declined.
Funeral services took place Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at the Old Jennies Creek United Baptist Church with Bobby Perry officiating. Burial followed at the Family Cemetery in Stone Coal. Mullins Family Funeral Home of Warfield is honored to serve the family.
