Martin County arrest report

Martin County Sheriff John Kirk

INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office made the following arrests:

Harvey Mollett, 52, of Tomahawk, was arrested Monday on Route 40 in Tomahawk on a charge of criminal mischief, first degree.

Deputy Jameson Wall responded to the scene of an accident on Route 40 involving a FedEx truck and Mollett’s four-wheeler. Mollett allegedly advised that he intentionally ran his four-wheeler into the side of the FedEx truck when the truck stopped because he was mad at the driver for possibly hitting his dog. Mollett also told the officer that he punched the window of the truck four or five times to get the driver’s attention, to get him out of the truck.

Wall said the driver corroborated the story.

The police report noted the damage to the truck was on the driver’s door.

Randall Mollett, 62, of Tomahawk, was arrested Monday on Route 40 in Tomahawk on a charge of disorderly conduct, second degree. Deputy Wall said Mollett showed up at the scene of an accident on Route 40 in Tomahawk involving a four-wheeler and a FedEx truck. He is the brother of Harvey Mollett, who was driving the four-wheeler.

According to the police report, Mollett jumped off his golf cart and proceeded to run up to the FedEx driver.

“I had to command him multiple times to leave the driver alone,” Wall said.

Mollett became argumentative with the deputy, refusing multiple commands to stay by his golf cart until the officer could finish with the other subjects in the accident.

According to Deputy Putman, he was traveling behind a gold Ford Taurus on Route 40 in Warfield around 10:15 p.m. when he observed the vehicle cross the yellow center line about five times. Putman attempted a traffic stop about 200 feet past Martin County Middle School. However, the driver refused to stop, accelerating away at speeds between 30 and 45 miles per hour.

Police said the vehicle continued onto Big Elk Road, then onto Poplar Fork and West Poplar, where the driver—identified as Doug Mills—drove into the hills to evade law enforcement.

Deputy Putman radioed Unit #66 to set up on Spruce Pine Road where the vehicle would reemerge.

The police report states that Unit #66 made contact with the Taurus on Spruce Pine, but Mills fled the scene on foot while Maynard remained in the passenger seat in the vehicle. While detaining Maynard, deputies saw a small bag containing a crystal-like substance in plain view on the seat where Maynard had been sitting. A search of the passenger side revealed another crystal-like “rock.” Maynard allegedly told officers the substance was not hers and that she was unaware of its presence in the vehicle.

Deputy Steven Putman said dispatchers received a report around 1 a.m. of a man jumping in front of traffic and waving down passing cars outside the gas station. When Putman arrived on-scene, he saw the man stumbling in the road. Moments later, Whitt, driving a pickup truck, pulled in to get the man.

The deputy said a quick check revealed that Whitt’s operator’s license had been suspended or revoked. While detaining Whitt, Putman allegedly discovered Whitt had a small plastic bag containing a brownish, crystal-like substance believed to be fentanyl.

That is when, according to the police report, Whitt began shouting and cursing, demanding the deputy call Sheriff Kirk. Even after being placed in the transport cruiser, Putman said, Whitt continued to yell and cause a disturbance.

Donna Jude

Donna Jude, 62, of Lovely, was arrested Oct. 1 in the parking lot of the Big Elk Church in Inez on a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance.

Deputy Putman reported that he was patrolling on Route 40-Blacklog, traveling toward Inez, when he fell in behind a red mid-size GMC truck that crossed the center line at least eight times. He and other deputies conducted a traffic stop at the church.

According to the police report, Jude appeared groggy with slurred speech and glossy eyes. She allegedly told officers she was “just very tired.”

After stepping out for a field sobriety test, Jude reportedly admitted she had taken prescription medication earlier in the evening — two 5-milligram Valiums and one 800-milligram Gabapentin.

Following the sobriety test, Putman arrested Jude at 10:02 p.m.

At the scene, the woman told officers that Dalton had hit her in the head three times and punched her in the jaw before she fled out the back door and ran to the front of the building.

A neighbor also stated they saw Dalton “smack the female in the mouth,” officials said.

Dalton, however, had left the scene.

Later, while patrolling in Inez, Sheriff Kirk and Deputy Putman encountered Dalton walking along Old Route 3.

When Sheriff Kirk asked about his destination, Dalton allegedly said, “You know where I’m going. I’m going to finish her off. Either take me to jail now or tomorrow because that is where I’m going—to kill.”
