1961—2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Marvin Johnson, age 64, who passed away peacefully Sept. 28, 2025, at Community Hospice Care in Ashland.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided during this difficult time.

Born Jan. 14, 1961, in Inez, he was the son of the late James R. Johnson and Irene (Endicott) Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Denny Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Tammie Johnson of Lovely; his four children, Brenton Johnson of Inez, Kasandra (Brandon) Preece of Paintsville, Michele Johnson of Louisa and Brandy (Scott) Zanders of Crum, West Virginia; and two stepchildren, Tabitha Stacy and Todd Howard, both of Lovely.

Marvin was a proud grandfather to Chase Preece, Gunner Preece, Isabella Preece, Ethan Howard, Bailey Howard and Bentley Porter. He is also survived by his siblings, Benny (Brenda) Johnson, Danny (Pat) Johnson, and Virgil (Cara) Johnson, all of Inez, Debbie (Bill) Bowes of Ona, West Virginia, Connie Johnson Crozier of Newark, Ohio, Diane (Jeffery) Maynard and Dotty (Rodney) Fletcher, both of Inez, and a special nephew, James Maynard (Lil’ James). He leaves behind many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marvin worked in construction for most of his life and was a talented mason. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and he loved animals, always keeping pets close by. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Funeral services take place Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home in Inez with Arnold Fletcher and Benny Joe Fitch officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Family Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
