Martin County Sheriff John Kirk

INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests:

Scott Hazlett

Scott Hazlett, 61, of Hyden, was arrested Sunday on West Main Street in Inez for driving on a DUI-suspended license, failure to produce an insurance card, no tail lamps, and a bench warrant out of Leslie County.

Deputy Jameson Wall stopped Hazlett around 4:20 p.m. after noticing his rear brake light failed to illuminate.

Victoria Maynard

Victoria Maynard, 55, of Inez, was arrested Saturday at Johnson Bottom in Inez on a bench warrant for court. Deputy Wall served the warrant at 11:30 p.m.

Linda Kay Maynard

Linda Kay Maynard, 45, of Pilgrim, was arrested Saturday in Pilgrim for public intoxication of a controlled substance (excludes alcohol), resisting arrest and disorderly conduct second degree.

Deputy Steven Putman of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting that Linda Kay Maynard was inside a garage at a residence in Pilgrim, “talking out of her head” and intoxicated to the point that others feared for both her safety and their own.

When Putman arrived, he observed Maynard sweating profusely and rambling incoherently. According to the arrest citation, she claimed people were trying to rape and kill her, that she had seen a video of a woman shooting someone, and that she was targeted because of what she had witnessed.

Upon being informed that she was under arrest, Maynard allegedly resisted. Once placed inside the cruiser, she began beating and banging on the windows and cage, police said.

Ricky Bragg

Ricky Bragg, 21, of Warfield, was arrested Friday at Dempsey Housing in Warfield for assault fourth degree (domestic violence), minor injury. Deputy JC Kirk responded to a domestic in progress. Upon arrival, he found a female with red marks on her cheek. She allegedly stated that Bragg backhanded her. Bragg allegedly had red knuckles.

Douglas Thompson

Douglas Thompson, 45, of Warfield, was arrested Friday in Lovely on a bench warrant from Pike County. Deputy Steven Putman served the warrant at 1:18 a.m.

John Sammons

John Sammons, 48, of Stonecoal, West Virginia, was arrested Friday in Lovely on a bench warrant for court. Deputy Putman served the warrant at 2:14 a.m.

Angela Perry

Angela Perry, 44, of Kermit, West Virginia, was arrested Friday in Lovely on a bench warrant from Lawrence County. Deputy Putman served the warrant at 2:14 a.m.

Mary Setser

Mary Setser, 54, of Inez, was arrested Friday on Fitch Branch in Inez on a bench warrant from Martin District Court. Deputy Putman served the warrant at 11:06 p.m.

Gerald Harden

Gerald Harden, 36, of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested Thursday on Court Street in Inez for burglary in the second degree and criminal mischief in the third degree. Deputy Cody Tash made the arrest.

Mary Ann Horn-Wells

Mary Ann Horn-Wells, 48, of Warfield, was arrested at 8:57 p.m. Sept. 24 in Warfield for operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license.

Constable Bradford Preece reported that officers were conducting a safety checkpoint when they saw Wells approach the roadblock, then abruptly turn her vehicle around. She stopped and switched seats with her passenger, Preece said, but admitted she had been driving.

Sherman J. Vance III

Sherman J. Vance III, 36, of Dingess, West Virginia, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 23 at Warfield Auto Outlet for public intoxication of a controlled substance (excludes alcohol), possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substance first degree (methamphetamine), possession of controlled substance first degree (drug unspecified), drug paraphernalia – buy/possession and possession of controlled substance first degree (fentanyl).

Sheriff Kirk responded to a complaint about a man who appeared to be under the influence at a business removing his clothing down to his underwear. When the sheriff located Vance, he noted there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from Vance’s vehicle. Vance reportedly admitted to having marijuana in his truck.

Sheriff Kirk stated there were three syringes and digital scales in plain view. During a search of the vehicle, the sheriff found approximately 20 grams of marijuana in a container, a crystal substance believed to be meth wadded up in a $20 bill, four round pills that Vance allegedly identified as Klonopin, and a powdery substance believed to be fentanyl in a metal container attached to a key chain.

Kasandra Hamilton

Kasandra Hamilton, 32, of Louisa, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Sept. 23 on North Wolf Creek Road in Pilgrim on charges of criminal mischief in the first degree (tampering with key infrastructure assets) and trespass of key infrastructure assets.

Deputy J.C. Kirk received a complaint that someone was attempting to free a truck from private property. Deputies and Sheriff Kirk arrived at the scene to find Hamilton working to free the truck from the mud. Law enforcement discovered approximately 45 feet of partially stripped copper telephone line and aluminum casings concealed in tall weeds at the scene. A cut line was hanging from the telephone pole. Hamilton had a ladder and a hacksaw in the bed of the truck and a razor knife in her back right pocket, authorities said.
