Evans qualifies for state golf tournament

PRESTONSBURG — Martin County High School’s Kenadie Evans is heading to the KHSAA State Golf Tournament after finishing fifth at the 11th Region Tournament at Stonecrest Golf Course on Sept. 22. The senior fired an 89 to secure her spot among the state’s best.

Teammate Mia James came up just one playoff hole short of qualifying with a 115.

Senior Hannah Swartz closed out her high school career on a high note finishing with a 120.

Coach Boo Newsome praised the team’s determination, saying the Cards battled through a long day of competition to produce “great results” under sunny skies.

On the boys’ side, Blake Lemaster led the team with a 93, followed by Avery Duncan at 95 in his final high school tournament.

Ryder Duncan shot 96, Dylan Hale carded a 103 and Gunner Broaddus shot a 120.
