
Caldwell scores 100th career goal

INEZ — Martin County’s perfect season is still alive. The Cardinals improved to 10-0 with an 8-0 rout of Menifee County on Sept. 9 to punch their ticket to the Elite 8 of the All “A” state tournament. The Lady Cards followed it with a 9-0 win over 15th Region rival Prestonsburg in regular season play Thursday with Faith Caldwell scoring her 100th career goal.
Caldwell was unstoppable in the All “A” victory, scoring five goals and adding an assist. Freshman Jaz Jude netted three goals. Maja Alm-Arnesen assisted on three goals. Annaleigh Davis helped out on two Cardinal goals. Hope Caldwell assisted on a goal.
Goalkeeper Bri Muncy turned away 10 shots to secure the team’s eighth shutout of the season.
Martin County kept rolling Thursday night as Davis erupted for four goals and an assist against Prestonsburg. F. Caldwell scored three more with three assists, including her 100th score in her Martin County career.
Alm-Arnesen and freshman Madelyn Goble each chipped in a goal and an assist. Jude kicked off to a teammate for a score.

Muncy had three saves in the net for another goose egg under her belt.
The Cardinals have now outscored opponents 74-2 and posted shutouts in eight of their 10 matches.
Martin County will try to keep its undefeated run going Friday when it faces Sayre in the All “A” Elite 8 at the Collegiate Turf Field in Louisville at 10 a.m.
