INEZ — The sights, sounds, and tastes of Appalachian heritage will come alive Saturday, Oct. 11 as Martin County hosts Heritage Day beginning at 11 a.m.

The celebration will take place along Kingfisher Branch Trail and God’s Promise Trail in Inez.

Families can step back in time for an old-fashioned day of fun. Visitors will hear stories from local one-room schoolteacher Pat Marcum.

They will also enjoy a traditional soup bean dinner cooked on-site and learn the art of churning butter.

Music will fill the hills as the McGinnis Family brings front porch pickin’ to the gathering. These musicians will create traditional mountain sounds.

Heritage Day will also feature demonstrations, hands-on activities and plenty of fellowship. The event will honor Martin County’s roots and pass traditions down to a new generation.

Martin County Rescue Squad will provide transportation up the hill. Shuttles will start leaving the Collier Center parking lot at 10 a.m.
