KERMIT — The town of Kermit will celebrate the season Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. with activities, food, music and family fun at the Kermit Fall Festival at Kermit City Park.

This year’s celebration offers something for all ages, from inflatables and obstacle courses for kids to live music, a pet show and the traditional parade that draws crowds to downtown.

Organizers say the festival is to bring neighbors together for fun, wholesome entertainment.

The day kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with the Second Annual Peggy Moore Memorial Run/Walk. Runners and walkers will gather at the Medicine Cabinet to start the course. Registration is $25 per participant and includes a commemorative shirt. For more information on the Run/Walk, contact Sherri-junebug Damron on Facebook.

One of the festival’s signature events will be the parade. The lineup starts at 11 a.m. at the car wash and the procession steps off at 11:30 a.m. This year’s Grand Marshal is especially meaningful. The honor will go to the family of the late Fire Chief Hawkey Preece.

The parade will feature the always-popular side-by-side, golf cart and 4-wheeler decorating contest. Judging will take place during the procession with prizes going to the first and second place winners.

Animal lovers will want to gather under the shed for the Paws in the Park Pet Show, sponsored by Dapper Doodle of Louisa, Kentucky. Registration begins at 1 p.m. with a $5 entry fee that will benefit local animal shelters. The show itself starts at 2 p.m. with a variety of pets competing for top honors. Participants can find more details by messaging Dapper Doodle on Facebook.

Music will fill the park throughout the afternoon and evening. Jack & The Postmen will take the stage from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by The Donnie Blevins Band from 4 to 6 p.m.

Throughout the festival, families can enjoy inflatables, a rock wall, an obstacle course, games, food vendors and shopping opportunities from local crafters and businesses.

Organizers say vendors can set up their booths Friday, Oct. 10 after 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Town officials caution that they will not be responsible for damages if vendors choose to set up before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.
