A pastor’s grandkids came to visit his church one Sunday, and the pastor asked his grandson, Caleb, how he liked Sunday School. He said he did not like it at all!
The pastor asked him why and he explained that the teacher made them close their eyes for a long time and wouldn’t let them open their eyes.
The pastor looked at his Sunday School paper and saw they were teaching the story about Jesus healing the man born blind. So the pastor explained that the teacher just wanted him to see what it would be like to be blind.
Caleb wasn’t impressed. He shouted, “I don’t wike to be bwind!” Actually he was saying, “I don’t LIKE to be blind!”
There are a lot of people walking around today who seem to “wike to be bwind!” They walk around with their eyes tightly shut against seeing God’s power and love for them.
The Bible said that this would be so. Ephesians 4:17-18: “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.”
People today are ignorant of God. They are blind to the things of God. They cannot see nor understand the things of God. People will follow any idea, any creed, any belief, any person except God. They are like the blind leading the blind and the Bible says that they both will fall into the ditch.
God first began to reveal Himself to the Hebrews, then He sent Jesus into this world to reveal Himself to all mankind. To open the eyes of blindness toward God. Jesus healed many blind people in His ministry to show us that only through Jesus can we see God. The trouble is that many in this world really seem to like to be blind. We think we see things exactly as they are today, so much better today than ever before. And we think we are so smart and have outgrown the Bible. We believe that the Bible is metaphorical and subject to any interpretation that we want to put on it.
The Bible is comprises 66 books by 40 authors over 1,600 years with the same theme and purpose. The theme of the Bible is the redemption of man. If you go down to the local library what are the odds that you will find 66 books 40 authors written over 1600 years would all have the same theme and purpose? Nil! I challenge you to find five books in the library written by five different authors written in the past year that have the same exact theme and purpose.
God has given us His light, Jesus Christ. He has given us His revelation, the word of God. We have no excuse for being blind about God.
It would seem that most people evidently like to be blind. What about you? Jesus said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12.
Will YOU let Jesus reveal your spiritual blindness and open your eyes to His truth today?
