HAZARD — Three OnPoint Swish players are heading to the Women’s American Basketball Association All-Star game, including Martin County’s Carla Booth, a standout whose journey is inspiring young athletes across Eastern Kentucky.
Booth, Makayla Epps of Marion County and Kennedi Stacy of Magoffin County were recently named to the 2025 WABA All-Star team.
Epps, a former Kentucky Wildcats star, earned the honor shortly before being inducted into the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame last week.
Booth is thrilled to continue competing in the WABA.
“At 32 years old and getting to compete at a high level for two years in a row is just incredible,” she said. “I’m in the best shape of my life.”
For Booth, the All-Star selection is about more than personal recognition.
“I’m just so glad to be able to give other girls in Eastern Kentucky hope that there’s no limit to what you can do if you work for it,” she said. “And to be able to display it at such a high level right here in the mountains is something special.”
Looking ahead, Booth and the team have a clear goal.
“The mindset is to win it all,” said Booth. “Three more wins and we are National Champs.”
The All-Star game is set for Oct. 5 in St. Louis, where the trio will represent OnPoint.
The Swish, the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Conference playoffs, will face Steel City in the conference championship Sunday at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium in Hazard.
