Martin County Middle wins three in a row

Martin County Middle School’s girls basketball A-team went 3-1 over the past two weeks with wins over Johns Creek, Magoffin and Paintsville. Their only setback was a two-point loss to Dorton. The B-team remains undefeated.

MCMS vs JC – The Lady Cards A-team wasted no time setting the tone in rolling to a 47-4 rout.

Makenna Marcum and Zoe Sammons shared top honors with 14 points apiece, while Alivia Stacy added 12. Kennedy Mills chipped in six and Harleigh Maynard added one.

The B-team also put on a clinic with a 45-10 victory.

Paige Stafford poured in 18 points, Braylee Horn added 12 and Harper Runyon 10.

Martha Maynard and Kiley Messer scored two each, and Kenleigh Estep added a free throw.

The C-team completed the sweep with a 31-13 win. Stafford dropped 11 while Estep followed with 10.

M. Maynard and Jaylea Maynard scored four apiece and Gabby Mann had two.

MCMS vs Magoffin – Stacy’s hot shooting led the A-team to a 44-18 win over Magoffin. She knocked down two 3-pointers and finished with 12 points.

Mills dropped in 11 points and was hot on the boards.

Marcum fired in nine and Sammons seven. Jaylea and M. Maynard bucketed two apiece. KB Muncy added a free throw.

The B-team kept its momentum rolling in a 40-21 victory.

Stafford lit up the scoreboard with 19 points. Horn followed with 13, while Runyon and Estep added three each. Sarah McCoy chipped in two.

MCMS vs. Paintsville – The A-team once again dominated, handing Paintsville a 44-13 loss.

Marcum led the way with 15 points. H. Maynard scored nine points and Stacy dropped eight.

Sammons fired in seven points, while Mills added three and Jeannah Fleming two.

The B-team stayed sharp with a 44-18 win.

Stafford poured in 18 points. Horn scored seven, Runyon six, and Estep five points. M. Maynard, McCoy and Mann had two apiece.

MCMS vs Dorton – The A-team had their first loss of the season on Aug. 25 in Warfield against Dorton 30-28.

An 8-0 run in the third quarter was not enough.

Sammons led with 12 points while Marcum scored nine points.

Mills fired in six points and KB Muncy added a bucket.

The B-team won in a close one by the same score, 30-28.

Horn led with double-digits, scoring 10 points, and Stafford bucketed nine. The pair hit two long-range shots each beyond the arc to spark a run.

 Runyon scored five points. M. Maynard nailed two buckets for four points. Estep added two.

The C-team was defeated 32-13. Horn scored five points, Stafford four, McCoy two points. Estep and Runyon each added a point.
