SOUTH WILLIAMSON — Kentucky State Police Post 9 announced that U.S. 119 near the intersection of Central Avenue in South Williamson will be shut down Aug. 30 from approximately 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a follow-up investigation related to a fatal collision.
Police say a woman was struck and killed Thursday night while attempting to cross U.S. 119.
Troopers from Post 9 in Pikeville received a call shortly after 8:30 p.m. reporting a collision involving a pedestrian in South Williamson. Their preliminary investigation found that a black Audi A3 traveling southbound hit Meghan Jones, 36, of Williamson, West Virginia, as she tried to cross the roadway.
The Pike County coroner pronounced Jones dead at the scene.
Trooper Matt Smith, an accident reconstructionist with the State Police, is leading the investigation. Fellow troopers, the Belfry Volunteer Fire Department and Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
The KSP asks motorists to use alternate routes Saturday during the road closure.
