Martin County golfers record career-bests

PRESTONSBURG — Several Martin County High School golfers turned in career-best performances last week at Stonecrest Golf Course.

In a nine-hole match Aug. 5, Ryder Duncan tied for fifth place with a 39, his best finish. Blake Lemaster tied for seventh with a 42, while Avery Duncan carded a personal-best 44. Gaven Grace shot 51 and Gunner Broaddus finished with 57.

Later in the week, Martin County competed in the Pikeville Invitational Tournament, also at Stonecrest. Lemaster posted his best tournament score with an 87. Ryder Duncan shot 91, Avery Duncan 101 and Broaddus 125.

The Cardinals were scheduled for a return to Stonecrest for a nine-hole boys match on Tuesday. The squad will travel to Johnson County on Saturday for the Paintsville Invitational, which will feature both boys and girls teams.

On Aug. 18, Martin County will compete in the All “A” Regional Tournament in Paintsville.
