INEZ — Kids under the age of 18 can take a dip at no cost this Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Martin County Pool after a local businessman stepped forward to cover their admission.

Kenneth Howell, owner of Howell’s Recycling in Inez, presented a check last week to Martin County Clerk Susie Skyles to fund a “free swim day” for all residents under 18.

This is the fourth such contribution and the third that Skyles has accepted personally, part of an effort that she says has become a highlight of the summer season.

“It is wonderful to see our kids able to enjoy the pool without worrying about the cost,” Skyles said. “Kenneth’s generosity shows that small acts can have a big effect in our community.”

Skyles accepted the first donation came from Ashwin Patel of America’s Quick Mart in July. She received the second donation from Shelia Maynard of Professional Cleaning. Last week an anonymous donor gave a check to Deputy Judge Carolea Mills.

Officials anticipate a strong turnout this Saturday with the August heat lingering into the weekend.
