INEZ — The Kiwanis Club’s weekly luncheon at Giovanni’s turned into a celebration of community Thursday when James Ayers, assistant vice president/regional retail manager of First State Bank and a longtime Kiwanian, presented a donation in support of this year’s Harvest Festival.

“Madam President, we’ve been built on belief since 1884,” Ayers said, turning to Kiwanis Club president Melissa Phelps. “Part of those beliefs is community and hard work, and we recognize the hard work that this group does for the community. So we’re glad to do it.”

Applause broke out from club members as Ayers handed over the check.

“A big thanks to First State Bank,” Phelps said.

The contribution will help fund attractions at the upcoming Martin County Harvest Fest on Sept. 12 & 13 in downtown Inez.
