INEZ — With illegal trash piles continuing to surface atop Buck Creek Hill, Martin County Judge/Executive Lon Lafferty and the Fiscal Court are urging residents to help stop unlawful dumping and take pride in keeping the county clean.

The Fiscal Court issued a press release Friday stating that the county has made major efforts to clean up illegal dump sites and has posted signs to prohibit dumping.

“Despite these measures, new piles of trash continue to appear, jeopardizing the environment, public health and the county’s appearance,” the release states.

“This is not just about keeping the county clean,” Judge Lafferty said in the release. “It’s about showing pride in where we live and leaving a better place for future generations. We are working hard to clean up Martin County, but we cannot do it alone. We need every resident to be part of the solution.”

The release warns that illegal dumping is a crime and violators will be subject to fines under county ordinances.

The county has installed surveillance cameras and posted signage in known trouble spots, including Buck Creek Hill. Enforcement efforts will increase to hold offenders accountable.

Officials encourage anyone who witnesses illegal dumping to report it to the Martin County Judge/Executive’s Office or the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

“Let’s work together to keep Martin County clean, beautiful, and a source of pride for all,” the release concludes.
