Maria Lynn Laney
1960—2025

Maria Lynn Laney, 65, of Matewan, West Virginia, passed away peacefully July 20, 2025, at Mountain View Center in Ripley.

Born June 4, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Avanelle Lambert and Walter Lee Williams.

In addition to her parents, Maria is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Laney, and one brother, Larry Williams.

Maria is survived by her two sons, Willis Lee (Ellie) Hatfield of Tomahawk, Kentucky, and Jimmy (Tina) Hatfield of Gay.

Maria was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Brittany (Dennis) Hatfield, Whitney (Paul) Ferreira, Ashley (Cody) Bevins, Bradley Hatfield, Whitney French and Randy Hatfield. She also had eight great-grandchildren: Khloe Hall, Kylie Hall, Atlas Nguyen, Addison Bevins, Hazel Bevins, Amelia Bevins, Arya Fry and Atticus Fry.

She is survived by her three brothers, Michael (Debrina) Williams, Danny (Janet) Williams and Ronnie Gunther and one sister, Ruth (Earl) Pack.

Although Maria had many friends throughout the years, she is survived by one very special friend, Jean.

Maria will be remembered for the love she had for her family. She enjoyed stopping at every yard sale she saw and getting her nails and makeup done, but most of all, she enjoyed being around her loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, July 25, 2025, at Mullins Family Funeral Home, Warfield. Clergy will be family and friends. Burial will take place at the Hatfield Cemetery on Milo in Inez, Kentucky.

Friends and family may visit the funeral home Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mullins Family Funeral Home is privileged to serve the family.
