Come home to Inez for the Appalachian Artist Festival

On Saturday, Aug. 2, the heart of Martin County will beat a little louder.

Downtown Inez will fill with music, color, conversation and community as the Appalachian Artist Festival transforms Court Street into a celebration of everything that makes our region special.

To our neighbors near and far, we issue this invitation: Come home.

Whether you were raised in these hills, still live here or simply carry Appalachia in your soul, this festival is for you.

This street fair is a gathering of artists, storytellers, musicians, makers and dreamers — people who know that even in hard times, our creativity endures.

The AAF is a showcase of Appalachian voices that refuse to be silenced, of traditions preserved and reimagined, of grit transformed into beauty. From quilts and books to macrame and mural art, every piece on display tells a story rooted in these mountains.

This year’s festival will unveil a powerful new mural on the Cain Hotel Building — a reminder that our fight for clean water, dignity and investment is not over. That mural, created by Kentucky artist Josh Mitcham and championed by Appalachian Pioneer Program’s Austin Shuck, is a promise that rural voices matter and that Appalachia will not be forgotten.

The music lineup is just as stirring. From the homecoming of Annalyse McCoy and husband Ryan Dunn, who perform as the duo Annalyse & Ryan, to hometown talents like Cody McCoy of Beauty, regional favorites and rising stars, the courthouse stage will echo with the sound of our stories set to song.

But more than the art, more than the food, more than the music, this is a chance to reconnect. With each other, home, and Appalachia.

So we encourage all Martin Countians, whether you live here or have moved away, and all sons and daughters of Appalachia, wherever you may be, to come home to Inez. Walk these streets again. Shake the hands of your neighbors. Look around at what we are creating and be part of it.

The Appalachian Artist Festival is a declaration.

Let us make it together.
