‘Ain’t America grand?’

Editor:

The Cambridge Dictionary defines “gullible” as being easily deceived or tricked and too willing to believe what other people say.

Americans must surely be the most gullible people on the planet. We pay a big price for jeans that are ripped to shreds and call it fashionable. We work for multinational corporations for free and think it’s great savings. Pump your own gas, check yourself out at Walmart. We play the lottery and think 300 million to one are great odds (somebody is going to win – may as well be you.)

Alas, we are the people who vote for the leaders of the free democratic world. So we now have a convicted felon (tax evasion) in charge of the justice system, who uses the so-called executive privilege to ignore the courts and Constitution, and who ignores the liberties and rights of the citizens.

We have a bankrupt (five times) businessman running the national economy, who declared our debt out of control. So, the cure is less money for the U.S. (tax breaks and funding cuts for vital agencies, such as the IRS, FBI, and Justice Department). Who needs law enforcement paid for by service cuts to the poor and unhealthy?

We have a president who appoints people to his cabinet whose only qualifications seem to be a loyalty to him.

So we have RFK Jr. (who is not a doctor) giving advice on health; a man in charge of the Department of Education who thinks education is unnecessary, so eliminate it (educated people tend to vote for Democrats); a postmaster general who seems bent on wrecking the whole thing; a man in charge of space exploration whose rockets keep blowing up at a spectacular rate; a man in charge of national security who thinks little brown-skinned women and children are the greatest threat to security and that NATO is not worth keeping.

Ah, but the worst seems to be a president who recently bad-mouthed Abe Lincoln for freeing the slaves, thus creating job losses for farmers; who has openly expressed his admiration for communist dictators.

We got what we voted for. Ain’t America grand?

Just great again!
